To the Greater Essex Community:

It is with great pleasure that I write to introduce myself as the newest member of the administrative team at Essex High School.  My name is Mahdi Dublin, and I assumed my role as Associate Principal of Essex High School on January 21, 2020.  I am pleased to join and serve such a reputable community, and I anticipate an exciting and successful school year.  As parents of four children, my wife, Kimberly, and I understand the balance of family and work-life, and we appreciate the value of emphasizing quality in all experiences, especially while giving back to the community.  As a family, we have enjoyed participating in various youth sports organizations, Boy Scouts, and school PTAs.  Serving youth is a natural part of my adult life.

I began my career in education with Henrico County Public Schools in 1998 as a teacher before becoming a teacher leader and assistant principal intern.  In my previous position as Administrative Intern, I oversaw several areas, including those dealing with instruction, instructional technology, student support services, exceptional education, and student achievement.  I also collaborated on a variety of initiatives, including those related to family and community engagement and technology integration. In 2008, I was recognized as Teacher of the Year at George H. Moody Middle School and again in 2016 at Fairfield Middle School while also serving as an administrative aide.  I believe that I will be able to forge meaningful, collaborative relationships with our staff and the greater Essex community as I have done so successfully in Henrico County.

I am an alumnus of Virginia Union University, where I earned a bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. I received a master’s degree in education administration and supervision from Virginia Commonwealth University. I am a native of Brevard County, Florida.
