Library Media Center Mission
Our mission is to meet the individual needs of each student at Essex High School while fostering an environment of project-based, and student-centered learning. We strive to promote a culture of reading, learning, and collaboration while recognizing and embracing the cultural and socioeconomic diversity of our student body. We aim to teach our students better information-seeking behavior, as well as provide them with necessary career/workplace readiness skills.
Hours:
8:15-3:30
Circulation Policies:
*Rule of 3
-Regular Book Circulation: 3 week loan- period
-3 item maximum
-3 or more weeks overdue= notice sent home
-Reference Books: overnight
-There will be no late fees charged to students for overdue books
-If books are more than three weeks overdue, notices will be sent home to parents/guardians
-English teachers will be expected to bring their students to the library media center for regular circulation practices, to encourage and foster good reading habits
-Books that are lost or damaged will be replaced at cost to the student, and a new copy of the book will be ordered to replace the lost or damaged copy
-If a lost book is found after the student has paid the replacement cost of the book, the student will be reimbursed for the replacement amount
Library Policies:
- Open Door policy- If I’m here, and the door is open, you’re welcome in the library!
- Students visiting the library without their class MUST bring a signed hallway pass from their teacher, or the teacher may call down to inform the library media specialist that they are sending a student
- Students must sign in at the circulation desk when using the library
- Students may eat lunch in the library if permission is obtained by teacher and library media specialist
- Zero- Tolerance for cell phone use, unless library media specialist gives explicit permission
- Students testing in the library must follow EHS Code of Conduct guidelines
- Lessons- If the library media specialist is delivering a lesson to a class, all students MUST attempt to participate. Failure to attempt will be documented.
